What a great piece..and your photo...had not seen it before... Am forwarding this exchange of emails, because this

is one great site...these people who are so involved with all this "STUFF" and yet seem to survive..even thrive...I don't know how I found them but fired off this email....

So...the first ladies....

Several months ago I went with my buddy and colleague Trudy Kelly..to an antique store...and found the Brinn First Ladies...only two were tagged..there were seven, but I fell in love with FL Polk....Mamie and bangs and pink dress..pretty obvious who she is....and then got off on a kick.

Can't find anything about Brinn's....they made countless dolls in Korea..they are/were in Pittsburg...all kinds of sets...holiday, clowns, these First Ladies, Calendar, etc.....up until the early 90s...seem to be a lot in 1987/88....then...nothing....Nothing on the web but bulletin board comments..people asking about the company..then did find one bulletin board listing that did mention the fire.... Really curious.

Had gotten a book on dolls..or actually several on Ebay and have found a page with a man named Lewis Soronson who had a set of both presidents and their wives. Have a photo page 153 of Spinning Wheel Complete Book of Dolls Vol. 2 Gold Horse Publishing Co. 1981.

Madame Alexander did several sets..and they are all for sale on Ebay about 60.00 apiece, but silly....just look lik MA dolls with differenct dresses...mine do have some character..or at least Mami and probably Bess Truman...do. Spent yesterday at work...not really working but checking out bios of first ladies in the stacks...(one of the advantages of working in the library...of course...)

Found Martha Washington, Randolph (for Jefferson), one of the Adams ladies and Monroe on ebay when I got home..and ...well, for 20 to 30 a pop....got the bid on 2...and then found that there was a series made by a Suzanne Gibson for the Smithsonian..... Yeah....bid on E. Roosevelt (not Eleanor..wonder what an Eleanor Roosevelt doll will look like ? Or even Barbara Bush...now Nancy R....piece of cake for a dollmakter....

Even bought a really cheap copy ..or bid on it..of Truman's (Margaret of course) fairly recent bios of the first ladies....

Discovered that Julia Grant wrote her own autiobiography but no one would publish it until the 1970s...

There is a really good web site at a museum and library on the first ladies...a GREAT web site.... So....

How to discover more about Briinn ???? And...my own website.... When ?? Glad you are OK ...was starting to worry not having had an email in a couple of days. Elizabeth

I started getting stuff..when my grandchildren were born..and then more and more..and feel attached to them all...the purple pony, pink pig and black cat at the SA that all were there together and seemed to belong together..now som Brinn's first ladies....that have me hooked...

I just registered on Yahoo and have started listing some of my books..things around forever..will probably never sell...but that are just fun to refinger, reread...scan..and ...well... I really just came by to say how great your page it...you must be really neat people... Elizabeth ______________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo!
