Description

all cloth doll, Syria, 1930s

This doll is from the estate of a doll collector whose dolls dated from the 1920s to the 1960s. This one matches the description for "Syria, 1938." She is about 14" tall and has a body made entirely of cloth. She has stitched fingers and a hand-painted face. She has reddish-brown hair that appears to be mohair and is arranged in a long braid down her back. She has jewelry made from glass beads that look like 1910s style. Her jewelry also includes replica of old coins; I cannot read them. Her basket contains colored ribbons (perhaps to represent flowers?). There is some disintegration on two parts of the netting that covers her basket. She wears a multi-layered costume. Her panties are cream-colored satiny material with pretty edging. Her slip is a starched netting. Her skirt, overdress, apron, and blouse are all a satiny-type material, with different types of edgings and borders. Two spots on her skirt and her sleeves look slightly faded (can be seen in photo). Mostly, her biggest "fault" is that her garments could use pressing. (What a lucky lady for such a minor fault!) :o)
